Noad, though that may be streatching it a bit to label Granados as “romantic. Don’t show me this again. When I got mine the internet did not exist so it was worth it. I regularly sight read pieces in the first three but really haven’t found this one to be as interesting or enjoyable. The first few pages, the introduction, are rather intersting as Noad gives a brief history of the romantic period, with black and white illistrations of concert halls and royalty that some composers in this book played about.
All in all, it is a wonderful anthology, containing standard classics we have all grown fond of as guitarists.
Though all the pieces in the anthology are in the PD somewhere, some are hard to find, like a couple of Broca pieces, some are actually to my knowledge to be found elsewhere except in the Noad Romantic Anthology.
I’m not at home at the moment so I haven’t got my or rather my employer’s copy of the book available but I don’t think there are much music in the book you can’t find cheaper somewhere else.

Overall I would say that he didn’t really have a great taste in picking out a musically ‘variety’ with the exception of the ‘gems’ and rarely known piecesbut from the educational standpoint he did a great job in creating a good starting point for repertoire, history, as well as techniques for the classical guitar and the respective eras.
I have the other 3 in the anthology and have been “itching” to get the final 4th book “The Romantic Guitar” by Noad. The book contains pages and 99 pages are mostly short, cute and charming salon type music that is all self explanitory.
The music of Coste, Tarrega, Mertz and Madame Pratten who kept the guitar alive in the 19th century in the face of competition from the pianoforte.
