The idea that Lord of the Rings is a history written by the victor is great and seeing it expanded would be intriguing. The middle pages was a real drag A lot of what I was thinking about when I read it was the movies, which also worked.

Some people have called it fanfic, but I’m not sure it qualifies as that since it’s actually been published and won a couple of awards in Russia. To the victor go the spoils, ringbearr to rewriting the history and dehumanizing the losing side one has to have a legit excuse to calm one’s conscience after all. The translation to English also felt a little amateurish, and I wonder kirrill Yeskov’s prose worked better in Russian.

There are many authors who had similar success but whose works I don’t like. I started this book with high hopes, since I rather like alternative viewpoint stories. And while we’re at it: Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, based on the proverb: Company Information About Contact Us.
