I kind of wish that the last two books of this series had been cut down into one, because I feel like there was a lot of filler that I could’ve done without. Most of the time when I read action scenes in books I have no idea what the fuck happened or the author takes a cop out and writes something like “and then everything happened at once” and then skips to the aftermath but in these I always had a vivid mental pic of everything that went down and it was rad.
Having reached the end of the Alanna books, I’m really sad to be done with the series. If so, why ally him so completely with Roger? Alanna knows Chitral, the mountain elemental who holds the Jewel, will never make it easy for her to obtain the Jewel, so she bespells her friends to keep them asleep and ventures into the blizzard up the mountain.

Re-read February Hey, my original review is pretty good. At first it seemed as if little things kept her awake. But Delia wasn’t at court then, was she? She knows to give the longer explanation so Alanna knows Thayet isn’t shirking her duty, and that, more than anything, is what convinces me that Thayet will be a great queen.
Pointing at the hearth logs, she sent her Gift out in a burst of violet until they caught flame. Meanwhile, Alanna has been having strange dreams from home, of her brother Thom, George, Jonathan, and Duke Roger’s dead body. I can deal with the other two major character deaths way better than I can deal with the cat’s, and I KNOW he’s technically immortal!
Bad skin as a boy, perhaps. Why doesn’t she try to do anything for him?! I suppose his reasoning for pulling away after Alanna’s return to Corus was because he believed she wanted to get back with Jonathan, but it wasn’t very well captured??

I wish we’d gotten to see more of Buri though I know she shows up in later books. I owe that to Myles.
